Academy for Governance is not just another organisation in Nigeria. It is uniquely different from other organisations or institutions in Nigeria and, indeed, in the global world. Actually, the Academy for Governance is a sui-generis institution.
On this score, we wish to highlight just five areas of societal endeavours to buttress this assertion.
First, Academy for Governance is not just an educational institution. Its scope of operations goes beyond inculcating courses of instruction, which education is all about. In the Academy for Governance, we embrace the entire spectrum of knowledge acquisition, knowledge development, and knowledge deployment in our programmes.
Secondly, we are Nigeria centric in conception, in context, and in the contents of our operations. To this end, we are focused on the long-range aspirations of Nigerians, propelled by missionary endeavours in the form of programmes and projects that are dedicated to the greatness of Nigeria. Besides, we emphasise capability as a critical human resource deployment strategy. To this end, we define capability as the possession of competence that is coupled with the right aptitude and attitude to Nigeria and Nigerians.
Thirdly, we bridge the gap between the formulation of ideas and the implementation of the ideas through a system of critical thinking and constructive engagement in the conduct of the affairs of the Academy for Governance.
Fourthly, we believe that no one becomes a doctor without passing through a medical school and no one becomes a lawyer without passing through a law school. Therefore, no one should drive governance in Nigeria without passing through a governance school. Accordingly, we have established and developed appropriate programmes for the production of functionaries well grounded in Proper Governance in Nigeria.
Fifthly, we are dedicated to addressing the negative centre of gravity in Nigeria identified as low productivity. To this end, we have established a strategic intent for ourselves, which states that “No Nigerian alive will be occupationally unengaged. Accordingly, we have developed special programmes that will engage all Nigerian citizens that are :
Unemployed or under employed.
Loafers
Children
Unengaged NYSC products
Retired persons in Nigeria and in whatever category
Nigerian Veterans ( persons of 90 years old and above)
Nigerian Champions and Icons recognised as any Nigerian, anywhere in the world, that has accomplished something spectacular benchmarked against the best in the world
